September Guest Speaker - Judy O'Connell, Victorian Small Business Commissioner

The Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) has just launch their three year business strategy outlining plans for a fairer and more competitive environment for Victoria’s small businesses.

The strategy incorporates the creation of the VSBC from 1 July, giving the Victorian Small Business Commissioner broader and stronger functions to be a voice for small business.

The new Commission will focus on small business community engagement, advocacy, monitoring the small business environment and providing dispute resolution.

About Judy

In December 2016, Judy O’Connell commenced as the Victorian Small Business Commissioner, where she advocates to make sure Victorian small businesses have a fair and competitive environment whilst running their business.

Judy also manages the quick, low cost dispute resolution service for small business.

Judy has extensive experience in tax administration with a public service career of over 30 years. Prior to being appointed Commissioner, Judy was the ATO’s Assistant Commissioner for Small Business.

At the ATO, Judy worked immensely hard to support small businesses who were struggling with Mental Health issues and introduced much great work and improvements in this area.

Judy lists, as a highlight of her career, being posted to the OECD in Paris where she led the International Tax Dialogue.
